Roy was always interested in flying and after a tour of U.S.A representing Britain was prime material to be an R.A.F. Pilot – but alas failed the final eye-sight test. In revenge he qualified as an optometrist but as soon as his salary was sufficient, qualified as a pilot and over the year worked up to be a Chief Flying Instructor and Commercial pilot. Optically he was always interested in non-spectacle vision correction, was awarded the contact lens prize and worked with Norman Bier for 4 years and apart from a spell as M.D. of Norville Opticians, concentrated on contact lens and laser sight correction. He moved to the Algarve in 2022 after the deaths of 5 of his friends, combining optometry and flying there. It was here that he had an extremely moving experience which led him to take an interest in Cognitive Disorder patients.
