Multi Disciplinary Standards for Refractive Surgery

Richard Edwards BSc MCOptom, FODO

As optometry and ophthalmology move ever closer together towards local community provision the role of the optometrist will evolve at a pace and in manner we have not experienced before.

Equally in order for our profession to maximise the opportunity this affords us we need to have a cogent aligned view to influence policy makers and stakeholders alike.

In this session Richard Edwards, Clinical Adviser to OCCS, will instigate a discussion about the consultation process for a new set of Multi Disciliplinary Standards for refractive surgery.

The debate will cover the policy requirements, GOC Practice Standards and also the clinical, medico legal and educational impacts of the increasing alignment of the two sectors to better serve patients.
