Paul Morris, director of Pressional Advancement, Specsavers; Ranjit Sandhu, consultant ophthalmologist; Janet Pooley, optometric advisor, Scottish Government; Richard Whittington, chief operating officer, LOC Support Unit; Clive Marchant, vice president, ABDO; Dan Scott FBDO, Locum Dispensing Optician: 1 interactive CET Point

Due to an ageing population and more complex treatments, the hospital eye service is under ever-increasing pressure of numbers of patients. The role of the optometrist is becoming increasingly clinical as they take on Independent Prescribing, MECS and Shared Care services aimed at treating more patients in a community setting. Dispensing Opticians too are becoming more involved in screening services and refraction. But is this what we signed up for? Are we adequately trained? Adequately funded? And who will be left to look after spectacle sales?
